Purposes and Services
Odin, Freyja, and Thor form a three-node Proxmox cluster. They also have decentralized container storage provided by Ceph. This cluster handles all of my service hosting, some of which with high availability. High availability (HA) , for those who don’t know, means that if one of my Proxmox nodes goes down, either intentionally or not, the cluster will recognize that and work to migrate all services marked as “HA” to a working node. Notable services that are HA include Navidrome, Jellyfin, and this WordPress instance. Odin also has the two 4TB hard drives attached to an HBA that is passed through to a TrueNAS VM. The NAS hosts all of my media, be it Movies, Music, Pictures, or other files worth keeping.
The machine named Bifrost acts as my home router. It runs a service called OPNSense and has two 2.5Gbit interfaces.
Future Plans
One thing I’d like to change is the power situation. There are too many AC adapters inside the rack. Makes it look too cluttered for my taste. The current plan is to pick up a distribution block and a somewhat high-wattage power supply. Wire the power supply into the distribution block and then get some DC barrel jacks to wire in as outputs for all of my devices that take 12v DC.
I’d also like to do more to decentralize my storage solution. The Ceph cluster was a move in the right direction but having my NAS only available to be hosted on one node of my Proxmox cluster is a fatal flaw. I’d like to pick up another machine of some kind that is small enough for my rack and make that my third Proxmox node. Use the ITX machine as a dedicated NAS. The NAS still wouldn’t be “High Availability” but at least it wouldn’t be tied to one of my Proxmox nodes.
